Topics inside course channels

In Zulip, every post must have a topic, so it might be a good idea to create some of these beforehand. For example:

• practice session 1
• practice session 2
• lecture
• general questions
• announcements

For adding topic, click + New topic next to your channel. You can change who can insert, move messages under the channel Advanced configuration. It's possible to mark topics as resolved.

Announcements (recommended pattern)

Option A (recommended for most courses): keep announcements as a topic inside the course channel.

• In channel YYYY-fall|spring-course use a topic named announcements.
• Teachers/TAs post announcements there; students ask questions in separate topics (e.g., HW1, Project, Exam).

Option B (for very large courses): add a separate announcements channel.

• YYYY-fall|spring-course-announcements (students read; only teachers/TAs can post)
• Example: 2025-fall-algorithmics-announcements
