Virtual reality (VR) is continuously transforming the way we learn, work, and play. Awareness about the use of VR in medical care, training, education, and daily work is increasing, and more people know its value beyond immersive video games. This class prepares students to be active contributors of next-generation immersive applications, with a hands-on focus on virtual reality. We cover content creation and optimization, interaction with several new modalities, best development practices, and team-based VR development. We will explore and experience the intersection between game design and work environments, encouraging students to critically evaluate and shape our understanding of a virtual world in extensive hands-on project work.

Grading

We are going to base the passing on 3 parts that all need to be passed:

  • Lab exercises (mini in class exercises + homework) - this is mainly graded after the class. There are different homework assessments, some need to be submitted in Courses and some in Discord, giving total 10 points (at least 6 is required to pass the class).
  • Project (depending on your suggested projects, projects can be carried out in different team sizes - we facilitate you having the right team size), we are going to offer 4 checkpoints where you have to present the status of your project (as well as some experiments that are based on techniques you learned in class - like for example locomotion exercises, lighting or a good story for your project). We will assess your presentations, progression and final result. You can collect up to 8 project assessment points (at least 6 is required to pass the course).
  • Final project presentation - every team has to present their final projects - this is kind of your final exam and should include the features and fixes agreed on in the checkpoints from above - therefore if you collected the check marks above and fulfill the agreed on fixes, you should easily pass here.
