About IP, licenses and NDAs

  • In some of the proposed projects, the customer asks that you sign an IP assignment agreement. This is a matter entirely between you and the customer. If you do not agree with their proposed IP assignment agreement, you should pick another project. We recommend (if possible) that you use the following short IP assignment agreement.
  • If the customer does not ask you to sign an IP assignment agreement, we recommend that you release your software as open-source, for example under a Free BSD license or MIT license.
  • Some customers might ask you to sign a Non-Disclosure Agreement (NDA). This is a matter entirely between you and the customer. We recommend you to carefully read any NDA in order to fully understand your obligations. We prefer if students sign only minimalistic NDAs such as this one, rather than complex NDAs. If you do not agree with the NDA or if you have doubts about the implications of the NDA, you should pick another project.
