3D Demo Scenes

Daniel Kütt, Märt Konsap, Silver Kirotar

Description

3D demo scenes built in Unreal Engine 4.

Lobby

You can move from one scene to another using the lobby, the entrances should indicate the scene you're entering.

first attempt with some chairs

First Scene - Lonely Island

Creating a tropical island for recently arrived Lone Survivor, who will suddenly realize that he was not first to arrive. Preview for current progress from afar can be seen here. Everything still looks very plain, because there are no trees and the landscape is not painted.

Goals

  • No beautiful multi-leveled waterfall coming, sad :(.
  • Create corresponding tropical meshes, if need.
  • Add signs of human activity and somewhat remains - not bones.

Issues

  • Too large area for our computers to handle.
  • Creating all the meshes.
  • Unreal Engine is being silly.

Second Scene - Broken cart on a forest path

The cart which you used to carry your goods has broken down in the middle of the night, so you decided to make camp nearby to wait for the morning.

Goals

  • Make a broken trading cart
  • Main scene design: Dark forest
  • Make a realistic campsite

Issues

  • Content pack which we would use is not ported to UE4.14 yet
  • Internet's limited data usage
  • Crappy computers
  • Lack of skills

Repository and stuff

  • New repository
  • OLD repository
  • Link to the gallery of currently made demo meshes by Silver.
  • Standalone build

Tools

  1. Unreal Engine 4.14.0 - 4.14.2, (recommended 4.14.2)
  2. Blender 2.78a
  3. GIMP 2
  4. Insane Bump

Materials

  • Some of the textures downloaded from here, rest captured ourselves.

Final Report

This was the final report.

Anyway, the idea to make 3D scenes originated from Daniel and as we wanted to try out 3D modelling and map creation already, we were inclined to do so. That's basically it.

We had to create a new repository, as git allows only 2GB of files. It wasn't enough as we accidentally pushed unnecessary files to the git at start. We did try to remove these files and git history, but the git's garbage collector didn't start soon enough and we had to move on.

Contributors

  • Daniel - Forest Path
  • Märt - Portals
  • Silver - Some meshes, normalmaps and The Lonely Island map

Everything else was just team effort.
