Headings

To turn some text into a heading prefix it with two, three or four exclamation marks. The heading of this page was created with the following markup:

!! Common elements

It is suggested that only the heading of the page (the first heading) has two exclamation marks. Subheadings should have three, and further nested subheadings four.

!!! Subheading
!!!! Nested subheading

The above will render as follows:

Subheading

Nested subheading

Do not use headings to simply make some text bigger and bolder, there are other means for that. Also try to avoid having links in the headings (more about links below).

Leading paragraph

You can make a paragraph stand out by turning it into a leading paragraph using the following markup:

%lead% Leading paragraph with some introductory text. Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipiscing elit. Integer laoreet condimentum interdum. Maecenas id elit purus, vitae rutrum magna.

This is what it looks like:

Leading paragraph with some introductory text. Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipiscing elit. Integer laoreet condimentum interdum. Maecenas id elit purus, vitae rutrum magna.

Preformatted text

With markup support

You can create blocks with monospaced text that preserve whitespace while also allowing you to use some wiki markup inside them, these blocks are created by starting the lines with a space. For example this markup (note the space at the beginning of each line):

Monospaced text with support for markup
and links.

will render as follows:

Monospaced text with support for markup
and links.

Note that the leading spaces are also present in the rendered output.

If you want to have some inline monospaced text, you can use the @@ markers:

Some text with @@inline monospaced text@@ that supports @@inside markup@@ aswell.

Some text with inline monospaced text that supports inside markup aswell.

Without markup support

You can also create similar blocks, but without the support for any kind of wiki markup inside:

[@
Monospaced text with no support for
markup or links.
@]
Monospaced text with no support for
markup or links.

This also works for inline text:

Some text with [@inline monospaced text@] that does not support [@inside markup@].

Some text with inline monospaced text that does not support inside markup.
