Objective

This course overviews fundamental topics in mobility modelling and urban dynamics from a modern perspective. The course's main objective is to use data to understand how, when, where, and eventually why people move. By analysing mobility's short-term and long-term impacts on the environment and society, we focus on transitioning from the traditional vehicle-centric vision in transportation and mobility modelling to a human-centric one. By the end of this course, you will have a big-picture view and a conceptual understanding of different models. You learn technical skills to use data for formulating various transportation and mobility problems and the practical knowledge needed to interpret them.

General information

  • Due to insufficient student enrolment, the course will be conducted in an office-hours–based format. This means that both pre-recorded lectures and tutorials will be delivered online via Courses and you are expected to go over them independently.
  • There are no regular in-person classes on Monday nor Wednesday, but you can use these times to schedule an appointment for individual consultations.
  • Questions related to the lectures and tutorials may be addressed during office hours or through individual consultations, which can be arranged in advance via email or Zulip/Teams Chat.
  • This course requires previous experience with Python programming language. Check Tutorial 0 to make sure you have the necessary background for this course.
