Course info
The course will equip PhD students with a broad set of skills for both academic and industrial careers. The centre of the course will be developing a collaborative project proposal among course participants (in groups) and learning all project management stages through the process. Other complementary exercises will also support the learning outcomes.
The optimal time to take the course will be during the 2nd or 3rd year of PhD studies (but all PhD students regardless of their study year are welcome to attend). The course is suitable for PhD students across the whole university and will be especially useful for those who plan to apply for Marie Skłodowska-Curie or ETAG Postdoctoral grant.
The course will cover the following topics, among others: Gantt charts, TRE levels, CV preparation, project deliverables and milestones, risk management plan, grant reviewing.
Learning objectives
Doctoral student who completed the course:
- can prepare full grant proposal, including:
- project budget and work plan
- Gantt chart
- risk mitigation plan
- dissemination and communication plan
- understands how project management takes place in the academic world
- knows the feedback and basic principles of project proposals
- can explain themselves understandably on their research topic
- holds knowledge on group work dynamics and networking strategies
