Description

Global Digital Innovation Project (GDIP) is a project-based course. The students are presented with a project at the beginning of the semester on which they will work throughout the course.

The students work in international interdisciplinary project teams formed in cooperation with an international partner (inno.space, a design factory from Hochschule Mannheim, Germany). The teams apply design thinking and digital product management methods to solve the tasks presented by the partner companies.

On successful completion of this course, students will able to:

  1. Conduct market and user research.
  2. Turn a problem statement into a product vision.
  3. Create and test product prototypes.
  4. Present the prototype to potential customers.
  5. Understand how to manage a product innovation project in a real-life setting.

Teaching Team: Maria Laanelepp, Yana Halas in cooperation with a Teaching Team from Germany.

Assessment criteria

This is non-differentiated (pass, fail, not present) course. The course will be assessed on a team basis with the final project presentation serving as the only assessment item. Each presentation will be jointly assessed by the course instructor and supporting industry representative(s). For a passing grade student should:

  • Speak out and participate in discussions
  • Explain one's role in the project
  • Analyze what has been done in different stages of the project
  • Apply design thinking process in the analysis
  • Apply various methods of design thinking process during the project
  • Attend at least 80% of the sessions

Homework

Homeworks are given each week. Homeworks are a combination of research, practical tasks and reports. Feedback is provided to students on every homework.

Other information

Communication channels for this course: Slack, emails.

Students have the possibility of doing this course multiple times since the problem statements are new every semester and the courses themselves are evolving from semester to semester.

Since half of the students are based in Germany, the sessions will be held online via Zoom.
