Assessment

Evaluation instruments and criteria

6 homework assignments - total of 60 points
7 quizzes (in class) - total of 10 points (only the 5 best quizzes count)
1 final exam (written) - total of 30 points
or
1 final report (incl. presentation) - total of 30 points

Rules about exam/project:

  • You can decide to take either the exam or the project assignment.
  • You must decide by email to both Dietmar and Ezequiel what you wish to do at the latest by Thursday, April 26, 2018 at 23:59).
  • If we don't receive an email by that deadline, we assume that you want to take the exam on Monday, 28 May 2018 (see below).
  • If you decide to do the project assignment, you will not be allowed to take the exam.

In order to not fail the course, a student must have achieved at least:

  • 30 points from the homework assignments
  • 5 points from the quizzes
  • 15 points from the final exam or project report (incl. presentation)
  • 50 points in total

NOTE: If you decide to do the project assignment, you will not be allowed to take the exam!

Project

The project can be done in place of the exam.

Project schedule:

  • Thursday, 26-Apr-2018 (not later than 23:59): Inform Dietmar and Ezequiel by email that you wish to do the project instead of taking the exam.
  • Monday, 07-May-2018 (not later than 17:00): Final agreement on the topic either with Dietmar or Ezequiel. If an agreement has not been reached by that time, you must take one of the choices described under Options A and B in the project description (see below).
  • Monday, 21-May-2018 (during lecture time 10:15-11:45): Presentation of project topic, progress and initial results. 15 min per presenter plus 5 min Q&A time. Slides must be submitted as PDF files before 10:00 on 21-May-2018.
  • Thursday, 07-June-2018 (not later than 23:59): Submission of final report. Up to 24 hours late submission generates 20% penalty. More than 24 hours late submission generates 100% penalty and the course grade will be 'F' (fail).

  • Faiz Shah: "App Features Extraction from User Reviews - An Extension to the SAFE Approach"

Grading:

  • Presentation (21-May-2018): up to 5 marks
  • Report (not later than 07-June-2018): up to 25 marks

NOTE: If you want to take the project assignment, you must inform both Dietmar and Ezequiel by email at the latest by Thursday, April 26, 2018 at 23:59). If you decide to do the project, you will not be allowed to take the exam.
