HW 01 (13.9) Introduction - the "vision"

1. Estimate the amount and type of data (that could be) collected in 1 year for “Selver” in Estonia – state the main assumptions.

2. Write on a single A4 some interesting questions that might be possible to ask from all this Selver-data and especially it’s potential business value (why).

3. Which application intrigued you the most from the introduction lecture (or maybe which application you thought about yourself)? State your vision on that in the style what if we could do this or that (sci fi style?) on 1/2 page.

4. Study the software called R. What is it? What is the main functionality it offers?

5. Read Probability and Statistics intro to remind yourself or learn some basics. How do you interpret what is statistical significance.

6. (Bonus 1p) What is the probability to get 9 or 10 heads when you throw a fair coin 10 times? What is the probability to get 70 or more heads when you throw a fair coin 100 times? Conduct a computational experiment by generating 10,000 times such sequences of 10 coin tosses or 100 coin tosses.
