Title: Data Storage Leakage and Manipulation in Mozilla Thunderbird and Skype
Abstract:
Mozilla Thunderbird is one of the most used email client, which supports security features such as digital signing and public key infrastruc- ture (PKI) or encryption. Similarly Skype is the most used Voice Over IP software which revolutionized the network communication with it’s video calling facilities and provides many security features.
However, though these two softwares provide various security features for end to end communication over the network, there exists security flaws in the way they store the data in personal computers. The series of experiments in this presentation demonstrate how a hacker with access to a personal computer of a victim who uses Thunderbird and Skype, can access, modify and steal the credentials of the victim. The flaws in data storage mechanism of these applications are articulated in this presentation substantiating the leakage of privacy besides security.
