Modern Cryptology

Lecturer: Janno Siim (contact: janno.siim@ut.ee)
Lecture: Wednesday 12:15 - 14:00 (room 2045)
Practice: Friday 12:15 - 14:00 (room 2045)

Description

The course offers a brief introduction to emerging topics in modern cryptology, including post-quantum security, zero-knowledge proofs, secure multi-party computation, full homomorphic encryption, blockchain, and many more. In spirit, it is meant as a continuation of the bachelor's course Cryptography (LTAT.04.020). However, we try to accommodate students with no prior background in cryptology. The first part of the course will go over the necessary background.

Necessary prerequisites

There are no formal prerequisite courses. The student should know the very basics of algebra, probability theory, and algorithm analysis (e.g., asymptotics). It is helpful (but not necessary) if the student has already taken some introductory course in cryptology.

Grading

The final grade will be made up of points earned from homeworks (50%) and the final exam (50%). Additionally, bonus points will be awarded for attendance and for completing occasional extra tasks.
