Projects

The project aims to use your spatial data analytic skills to explore a dataset, discover mobility patterns in data, and critically analyze available approaches.

Important dates:

  • Team formation (team size is 1 - 3 students) until 28 February
  • Intermediate presentations - 31 March
  • Final presentations - 19 May
  • Final report submission - 26 May

Possible topics:

  • Use Kaggle or other available datasets and define your research question. Some ideas for inspiration:
    • Analyzing the accessibility of public transport
    • Comparing mobility patterns in different cities
    • Labelling trips (based on PoI, Time, Age, Gender, ...)
  • Select a high-quality scientific publication (in Nature, Science, etc.) with a public dataset and explore alternative approaches to the same research question.

List of available datasets:

  • NYC Citi Bikes
  • Micromobility in the U.S.
  • Capital Bikes in Washington DC
  • Helsinki Bike Share
  • Tartu Smart Bike (ask Helen for data)
  • Home and work locations in Tartu (100x100m grid) (ask Helen for data)
  • ...and many other publicly available datasets you can find online by yourself!

Outcome:

  • Intermediate presentation - 10%
  • Final presentation - 40%
  • Final report (6 pages) - 50%
You must be logged in and registered to the course in order to submit solutions.
