Homework 3: What-If Process Mining
We consider a event log of handling loan applications, which can be found here: https://owncloud.ut.ee/owncloud/s/JJHmLF6NYj8f5wL. NB! This event log (and the underlying process) is different from the one used in the second homework.
Upload the given event log to the Apromore server used in the course and answer the questions given below. Please provide supporting screenshots and explanations for each answer. The practice session example solutions are a good indicator the expected level of detail.
In addition to the report, please also upload the BPMN model (with simulation parameters) of the final result.
- [1 point] Create an initial simulation scenario based on the given event log. You are encouraged to take advantage of the automated discovery of simulation parameters (Checkbox "Include simulation parameters" when saving a discovered BPMN model). The simulation scenario should contain all activities. Level of abstraction on arcs is for you to decide, but keep in mind that the default setting might not be detailed enough, while including all arcs might be too detailed.
- [2 points] Compare the given event log to the event logs generated by the initial simulation scenario. Improve the simulation scenario such that it would generate event logs with case durations and activity waiting times similar to the given event log. Show comparison results for both the initial simulation scenario and for the improved scenario. Note that, while a perfect result cannot be achieved, you should be able to get significantly closer to the original log than by just using the automatically discovered simulation parameters.
- [1 point] If the process demand would double, how many and which additional resources would be needed to keep the case durations and waiting times from increasing.
- [1 point] Process owner is is considering changes to the activity "Amend Offer". These changes are estimated to result in rejecting 30% of the applications that require amendments immediately after finishing the activity "Amend Offer". But the duration of the activity "Amend Offer" is estimated to increase to approximately 1 hour (with some applications requiring significantly more time). Modify the simulation model and scenario to check if this change would improve the overall performance of this process?
Note: run your simulations using 24/7 calendar
