Distributed Systems project

The objective of the course is to give students knowledge and skills for performing practical research projects in the field of Distributed Systems and related areas. The students will learn how to independently carry out applied projects to solve specific issues related to distributed systems within one of the research groups under the chair of Distributed Systems.

This course is for you if the following conditions are met:

  • You want to complete a concrete project with a duration of one semester.
  • The project is related to Distributed Systems, Cloud Computing, Internet of Things (IoT), Intelligent Transport Systems, pervasive systems, or autonomous driving systems.
  • There is a supervisor who is willing to mentor you.

Organization of the course

Volume: 3 ECTS (Subject can be taken twice, in two different semesters; 3 ECTS corresponds approximately to 78h of work)

Occurrences: There are no regular lectures, seminars, or labs in this course.
Curricula: Computer Science MSc, Data Science MSc, Conversion Master in IT MSc.

To pass the course you must:

  1. Search for a supervisor and agree on a project topic.
  2. Prepare a specific project plan.
    • The instructor must confirm that he/she agrees to supervise the student!
    • To be registered for the course, send the plan to the course coordinator.
  3. Complete the project
  4. Give a talk in the supervisors' research group.
  5. Write the project report.
    • Submit the report to the course coordinator to pass the course!
    • Supervisor must confirm that sufficient volume of work has been performed

Expectations for course organization and students:

  • We do not coach nor babysit you!
  • Completing the project is the responsibility of the student.
  • Your supervisor will decide (based on the given talk and report) whether the student passes the course or fails!
  • Project does not have to succeed fully if the student has contributed sufficiently!
  • If the student and the supervisor disagree on the final result, we will arrange an independent review of the results.
