Summary
Return of the classics
Our aim is to make a Metroidvania style game where the focus of power-ups is shifted to character differences instead of items.
Start alone, gather allies
You begin the game as a basic character with a small area to explore and you need to find certain other characters to unlock more areas and new mechanics.
Explore new horizons
With finding new characters you will have access to new game mechanics, so new areas open up. As time goes by the explorable area opens up more with new and more difficult enemies.
Get ready for the challenge
To progress smoothly with the game, the player is expected to master the new mechanics brought by the new characters. It is possible for the player to go and fight the final boss directly after tutorial area, however doing so will be near impossible without progressing and unlocking other characters.

Peer review
Our team reviewed the Washed Ashore game. The game art looks pleasant and the music is great. However, we found several things that you can improve to make your game even better:
- The options tab in main menu has only one slider that can’t be interacted with.
- A help window that shows game hot-keys would be useful. Had to find out by random pressing that ‘e’ is for swapping weapons.
- The green goblins don’t get damaged by arrows sometimes. I presume this is because arrow hits their weapon without ever reaching character.
- The jumping sound spams even when you’re in the air and cannot jump.
- You can jump onto enemies and sit on their head with them just walking on.
- The goblins are very difficult to fight close combat, they start glitching around you as you turn around.
- After jumping over a goblin, they keep walking away from you. Not sure if they are meant to just walk forward or not
- Compared to everything else, the goblin sprite is very blurry.
- In level select, there appears to be gold, wood and stone resources. Not sure what they would be used for.
- After you die and go to main menu. Launching new level back up begins with the player being dead
- In-game could use a pause menu where you can leave to main menu or quit game.
- There is a big part of the game with no enemies that later appear altogether in the end
- It's not obvious for some elements of the level that you can pass through them
- There are no pickable items
