Escaping a Well

Slides: https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/1-zGdFzPlupgFewdSat4P40rj2Clx4XUj4LPn9LWS_Jo/edit?usp=sharing

This is a VR horror experience where the player awakens deep at the bottom of an ancient, moss-covered stone well. The air is damp. The darkness feels alive. Your only hope is to climb, using the surrounding environment. But you're not alone — something is coming from below.

A terrifying creature is ascending after you, and every second counts. If it reaches you... the game ends.

Core Mechanics

  • The player uses VR controllers to physically climb well walls and obstacles.
  • The session is time-pressured — the monster keeps getting closer as you play.
  • Sound is your sixth sense: the monster’s heavy breathing, creaking stones, and echoing sounds signal imminent danger.

Objective

Survive and escape the well by reaching the top — before the creature catches you. Think fast, climb smart, and listen closely.

Current Development Status

The project is currently in a playable state with all core features working. However, there is still plenty of room for improvement — from visual polish to expanded game mechanics. If you're passionate about VR horror or game development, feel free to reach out and contribute!

Emotions Targeted

  • Fear – We used darkness, threatening sounds, and an unseen pursuer from below to evoke primal fear.
  • Paranoia – Sudden noises and distant breathing make the player feel watched and chased at all times.
  • Claustrophobia – Narrow vertical space and lack of lateral movement build tension and panic.

Team Roles

  • Aleksander – Project lead and gameplay designer
  • Uku – Logistics master and tester
  • Stepan – Documentation
  • Lev – Art director and atmosphere designer
