Mor Qualms — Modern Quantum Algorithms
This book course continues MTAT.05.118 Qualms, the introductory quantum algorithms course.
In MTAT.05.118 we learned algorithms which are
- ... old (from before Estonia joined the EU)
- ... mind-numbingly basic.
If the MTAT.05.118-style quantum algorithms were all there is, building quantum computers would be a pass time of bored academics in their basement labs. Luckily they are not. In Mor Qualms students will cover the following algorithmic techniques.
We'll encounter some other "minor" techniques en passant. With these techniques, and a PhD in computational chemistry, you will be able to understand the papers describing the algorithms that will likely, as far as can be predicted today, run on the first fault-tolerant quantum computers in the early 2030s.
Organization
This is a "book course", which means students will be pointed to texts (sections in research papers) which cover the material, and which must be read in individual study. In twice weekly class meetings the text is discussed in the group and with the instructors... of course, there's Omicron, so we'll see how it will really work out 😒
Participation
This course is intended for students who want to specialize in quantum computing; the number of participants is limited. As with all ATI Book Courses, you have to talk to the senior instructor to participate!
