At the seminar we will discuss two research papers, the first is the winner of last year's SIGMORPHON competition:
- Kann, K. and Schütze, H. (2016) "MED: The LMU system for the SIGMORPHON 2016 shared task on morphological reinflection". Proceedings of the 2016 Meeting of SIGMORPHON, Berlin, Germany. Association for Computational Linguistics
And the second is the baseline system for the shared task on dependency parsing:
- Straka Milan, Hajič Jan, Straková Jana. UDPipe: Trainable Pipeline for Processing CoNLL-U Files Performing Tokenization, Morphological Analysis, POS Tagging and Parsing. In Proceedings of the Tenth International Conference on Language Resources and Evaluation (LREC 2016), Portorož, Slovenia, May 2016.
Every course participant will read both of the papers and participate in the group discussion at the seminar. Furthermore in the seminar we will discuss potential improvements to the two systems, which will form the basis of project work.
In addition to the discussion you will have to write a short summary of the paper (1--2 pages), expressing how you understood it. This you have to submit one week before the seminar.
