Statistical Machine Translation (MTAT.06.051)
A short course on machine translation from a computer scientist's perspective. The main topics to cover are the computational aspects of:
- how machine translation systems are created without knowing either the source or the target language
- why these do not produce perfect translation yet
- why professional translators hate them :)
The course consists of lectures only, but bringing your laptop is a good idea, since we will cover a number of practical topics.
The main language of the course is English; questions can be asked also in Estonian, Russian, Latvian, German, French and Italian (in the order of decreasing expectations of the intelligibility of the answer).
