This course will offer an introduction to pattern analysis, and how the recognition of interesting patterns allows for intelligent decisions and behaviour in machines. The course will be enlightened with examples, while maintaining mathematical and algorithmic rigour where appropriate. The emphasis will be on principles, rather than on heuristics and ad hoc methods.
The course starts with 3 preliminary lectures and practice sessions presenting the motivation for the course and revising the mathematical basics required for further understanding.
The main part of the course consists of an intensive set of lectures and practice sessions spanning the week of 13-17th of November, given by Tijl de Bie.
In the end, the students are given a home assignment, which they have to complete within the next month in order to get credit.
The course is in English.
The course is supported by the project "Info- and communication technology doctoral school".
